The old demo was retired at Early Access launch
The old Wanderburg Steam demo was retired when the game entered Early Access. The developers explicitly said they were retiring the Steam demo that day, and they explained why: the game had changed so much since March that the demo no longer represented the version being released into Early Access.
For someone returning after playing or seeing the demo, the important distinction is product status. The current full Wanderburg Steam product is a paid game, so the old demo should not be treated as the current route into the release version.
That also changes how older demo impressions should be interpreted. The developers’ own reason for retirement was representativeness: the March-era build no longer matched the game they were taking into Early Access. The useful comparison is therefore not simply free versus paid access; it is an older retired build versus the released Early Access product.
Demo-era access versus the released game
| Product | What a player should do now |
|---|---|
| Retired Steam demo | Treat it as an older milestone rather than the current build. It was retired because the developers said it no longer represented the game entering Early Access. |
| Released Wanderburg app 3624140 | Use the Windows Steam game released September 8, 2026 as the current official product route. |
| Purchase status | The current full Steam game is identified as a paid product, which is distinct from the retired demo access path. |
