Weapon mounting changes how you drive the fortress

Wanderburg’s arsenal is modular, and weapon position is part of how a build functions. The official progression description says new modules and vehicles can be unlocked between runs and specifically names cannons, arcane towers staffed with wizards and explosives as parts of the modular arsenal.

The gameplay overview makes the positional roles more concrete. Side cannons fire from the flanks, mines are dropped behind the fortress, mortars attack from range, the massive ram is mounted at the front for direct impacts, and barracks deploy soldiers. These are different jobs, not interchangeable skins for the same attack.

Because turning takes time, orientation changes the value of a weapon in the moment. A front ram asks you to line up the fortress, side cannons ask you to bring a flank into useful position, and rear-deployed mines naturally interact with what is following behind you.

Choose weapons by role, position and upgrade path

  • Use side cannons when you want a flank-mounted attack role, and remember that the fortress has to be positioned so that mounted side can contribute.
  • Use mines as a rear-deployed role when the fight benefits from leaving damage behind the moving fortress.
  • Use mortars as the documented ranged option when you want to attack from range and maintain space from direct front contact.
  • Use the front ram when the build is prepared to solve the alignment problem and commit to direct impacts.
  • Use barracks when you want a module whose core role is deploying soldiers.
  • Deepen the chosen module through documented upgrade categories such as extra damage, lower cooldowns, automation and additional effects, tailoring priorities to that module’s role.
  • Use artifacts to reinforce the broader build identity. Their documented bonus categories include melee damage, magic, arrows, fire effects and speed, including interactions with upgrades already taken.
  • Keep stronger enemy fortresses in mind when choosing the role. They can completely destroy a run, so weapon selection and positioning need to support survival as well as damage output.
